Balfour Beatty poised to protect the city



Balfour Beatty, the infrastructure firm have reportedly signed up to a mandate aimed at strengthening London's flood defences as part of a Thames Estuary asset management programme to be completed within 10 years.

Recent reports value the contract at approximately £250million led by CH2M Hill, the engineering consultancy will be managing the 170km of flood defences along the Thames Estuary across London, Essex and Kent.

The programme involves the production of tidal walls and further embankments, refurbishing existing defences and building pumping stations. Balfour Beatty's Chief Executive Leo Quinn commented "Balfour Beatty is brining significant expertise in flood defence to protect one of the worlds greatest cities from the sea."
