Business Development Manager – Plastics Waste Management Company

My client are an international waste management company with a primary focus on plastics. With the recent legislative changes to importing and exporting plastic waste around the world, this has given my client a huge opportunity to grow the business around their specialist product and service.

My client are looking to recruit individuals to cover territories currently not being managed (mainly Midlands, London/South East & North East/Scotland).

The current function, visits Waste Management & Recycling companies to buy their plastic scrap, which is then loaded into containers or trailers to Asia and Europe (15+ countries).

The successful candidate will be liaising with members of our sales teams around the world to get the best value, negotiating with freight forwarders for the best rates to different destinations, budgeting and presenting offers to suppliers (Waste Managers/Recyclers – this is your “customer”).

The right person must be energetic and hungry to get out on the road early and visit suppliers. This role is looking for someone who can take absolute ownership of their region and clients.

We are looking for someone who can take the time to be very knowledgeable about the industry and learn customers’ needs. You must be willing to be very honest with customers (say “no”) and understand that to be always in agreement (“yes” man) is not the way to gain respect, but a sign of weakness to be taken advantage of.

They will be given a territory and a wide range of materials they can deal with. However in the beginning the territory will be restricted (e.g. 2 or 3 counties), as will the materials they can trade and will grow as you learn more about the materials in the industry and companies.
