The Opportunity:Macdonald & Co. is exclusively retained by one of their most prestigious clients in the Southeast, a Commercial Real Estate Services/Brokerage firm, to appoint a ‘Managing Director’, in a newly-created role for their head office, in Winston-Salem, NC. The Managing Director will report to the CEO.

The Managing Director is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the company’s retail commercial real estate team, driving business growth, and building strong client relationships.
The Managing Director is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the retail division of the company, driving business growth, and building strong client relationships. This individual will lead the company's strategic initiatives and provide guidance to the firm's employees to achieve the firm's objectives. The team is projected to do over 130 individual transactions this year for multiple retail brands and will be adding additional brands to the brand portfolio in the coming months.
As the Managing Director for the group, you will:
- Set Vision: Enhance and execute a compelling vision and growth strategy for the retail commercial real estate team.
- Build and Lead the team: Recruit, develop, and lead a talented team of motivated professionals to execute on the strategic plans and initiatives developed by the executive team
- Communicate: Establish operating rhythm and maintain regular strategic and operational dialogue with partners to ensure coordination and urgency of action
- Establish Scalable Infrastructure: Implement consistent policies, processes, and systems across a multi-brand, geographically dispersed organization.
- Drive M&A: Expand the M&A effort internally by building out the team, implementing improved infrastructure, and making the deal sourcing effort repeatable/scalable.
- Expand the Platform: Engage directly in identifying, developing, acquiring, and integrating additional brands under the group’s umbrella.
- Innovate: Cultivate a high-performance culture focused on continuous improvement and innovation
- Drive Results: Translate strategies into executable short- term and long-term initiatives, establish operational business goals, measure performance, and hold team members accountable for successful delivery. Grow the team with a strict focus on profitability and cash flow.
Responsibilities:
Revenue Growth & Business Development:
- Develop and implement a 2–3-year roadmap or blueprint to implement strategic growth for the group.
- This will include a strong focus on revenue growth, business development, more effective systems and processes.
- Break strategic roadmap into logical execution steps to achieve strategic goals.
- Establish and maintain strong relationships with existing key accounts, new clients and prospects, ensuring that they receive exceptional service, and identifying opportunities to cross-sell and upsell services.
- Develop strategies to successfully execute transactions for clients, with an eye toward creative problem solving.
Operations:
- Manage the day-to-day operations of the team, ensure the successful execution of short and long-term initiatives, and consistently striving for industry-leading best practices.
- Proactively seeks to improve processes, raising quality and productivity through efficiencies or by implementing best-in-class solutions.
- Assist all verticals (M&A, Build to Suit, Investment Sales) when needed in developing and negotiating deal terms, including purchase price, financing, and other key deal terms.
- Benchmark performance of business or function against industry best practices.
Leadership:
- Foster a positive and productive work environment, promote teamwork, collaboration, and professional development for all employees.
- Set goals, monitor performance through meaningful metric tracking, and ensure that the team is accountable to those metrics while delivering a high-quality of work.
- Invite the team to recommend ways to solve problems, discuss challenging issues, or generate new ideas.
- Give team members decision-making authority and accountability within their areas of responsibility.
- Identify and leverage individual strengths and potential within the team.
- Interview and onboard new hires; build vertical depth in the organization and manage a team spanning many departments and functions.
- Delegate significant responsibilities to team members to free self to work on other priorities.
Requirements:
- Job will be located full-time in Winston-Salem, NC with ability to travel as needed to meet with clients and prospects.
- Bachelor's degree in business administration, finance, real estate, or a related field; MBA preferred.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in commercial real estate, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership position. M&A, Build to Suit, or Investment Sales experience highly preferred.
- Proven track record of success in driving growth and profitability in a real estate organization.
- Strong planning and execution skills, with the ability to develop and implement effective business strategies.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain strong relationships.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and manage teams, with a strong commitment to employee development and growth.
