Job Summary
Are you a tax professional who understands that listed-company compliance goes far beyond SARS?You’ll be joining a well-established listed property group with a substantial portfolio of high-quality commercial assets and a national presence. Operating within a specialist segment of the property market, the business offers the scale and governance exposure of a listed environment while retaining a lean, high-performing culture where individuals can make a visible contribution. With this being a newly created position, there is real scope to shape the role, broaden your expertise across group finance and build a long-term career that extends well beyond a traditional tax function.
As Group Tax & Compliance Officer, you’ll sit at the intersection of tax, compliance and risk, helping ensure the wider group remains on the right side of its statutory, regulatory and financial obligations. While tax will remain an important part of your remit, covering everything from VAT and corporate income tax to SARS matters and legislative changes, your exposure will stretch considerably further. You’ll become closely involved in the compliance demands that come with operating in a listed environment, navigating corporate and regulatory requirements, supporting dividend and company secretarial processes, and keeping a watchful eye on lender, debt and broader governance obligations. Rather than simply processing submissions, you’ll be expected to understand the risks behind them, spot potential issues early and bring together the right internal and external parties to keep the group compliant. It’s a varied role that offers the opportunity to develop into a genuinely well-rounded Tax & Compliance/Risk professional.
The distinction here is important: this is not a pure Tax Compliance Specialist position. The ideal candidate will be a Tax & Compliance/Risk professional who brings strong technical tax expertise together with meaningful exposure to the wider governance and compliance requirements of a listed organisation. You’ll hold a relevant Finance, Accounting or Tax qualification, ideally at Honours level, and bring at least 3+ years’ relevant experience with listed entities. You could also be a Junior CA(SA) with 1 to 2 years' post-article experience. This experience could have been gained internally within a listed company or through professional services, provided you have worked directly with listed clients and understand the associated compliance environment. You’ll have strong knowledge of the Income Tax Act, VAT Act and Companies Act, while exposure to listed property structures, Section 25BB, JSE requirements, debt covenants or corporate compliance will set you apart. Articulate, meticulous and commercially aware, you’ll be comfortable identifying compliance risk, escalating issues and engaging confidently with senior stakeholders.
