Job Summary

The Opportunity:
Macdonald & Co. has been exclusively tasked with appointing a Vice President of Development for a nationally renowned group—a top 3 vertically-integrated Multifamily investment & development real estate company.


This dynamic organization already operates in over 17 national markets and is now seeking a Vice President of Development for the Los Angeles area. The chosen candidate will be instrumental in advancing existing projects, seeking new opportunities, and supporting the Senior Managing Director in expanding the office.


The VP of Development will primarily assist the Senior Managing Director in pursuing new development prospects, conducting market research, acquiring sites, conducting due diligence, overseeing the design process, managing financing, and navigating zoning regulations. This role also involves overseeing each stage of the construction process and coordinating site specifications.


Role:
Functions & Responsibilities
  • Conducts on-site visits to oversee framing walks and general construction progress, documenting findings.
  • Oversees the construction draw process, generating monthly project reports, and meticulously monitoring each construction phase.
  • Develops comprehensive proformas for new development initiatives, integrating market insights, operational expenses, and projected costs.
  • Provides support in product development and design for emerging properties.
  • Assists in driving new development ventures, engaging in market analysis, financial assessments, and initial due diligence.
  • Coordinates telecommunications activities, including specifying requirements, negotiating contracts, and facilitating construction coordination.
  • Manages third-party inspections and facilitates bond releases for projects approaching completion.
  • Collaborates with architects, engineers, landscape designers, interior decorators, property managers, project supervisors, and development counterparts to align responsibilities.
  • Ensures rigorous adherence to project plans and promptly communicates any critical issues to the Managing Director.
  • Participates in Company-sponsored training programs covering topics such as fair housing, safety protocols, diversity, and harassment prevention.
  • Adheres to Company National Standards and complies with relevant health, safety, and regulatory requirements at the national, state, and local levels.

Education and/or Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree required. Degree in Business, Finance, Real Estate or other related field is preferred for this position.
  • Minimum of five plus years’ experience in Multifamily real estate, development or finance.
